Health Coordinator - FILLED FOR 2008
Our Health Coordinator is primarily responsible for overseeing the physical safety and well-being of approximately 100 campers and 25 staff members each week. Responsibilities include responding to medical emergencies and camper care including
scrapes, headaches, illness, and homesickness. Must review
all medical release forms and assist field staff with special
needs campers. Distribute prescription medication to campers
at meal and bedtime. Must be able to identify special needs
campers, be on-call duty 24 hrs per day with scheduled breaks,
and provide comfort to homesick campers. Ability to also act as the Waterfront Director desired. We will provide training if necessary. The Waterfront Director's role
is essential to the safety of the waterfront area at the
Maine Conservation School . Should have good organizational
skills and a high maturity level. Is responsible for care
and maintenance of canoes, kayaks, paddles, Pfd's and other
waterfront equipment.
Must be at least 21 years of age with considerable outdoor
experience, a high level of maturity, and great energy! Full-time
work, Sunday afternoon through Friday afternoon. Willingness
to assist other program needs as necessary.
Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Salary range of $300-$350 per week. Room and Board included.

Minimum Requirements: EMT certification or other advanced
certification required; lifeguard certified and experienced
as such. Water Safety Instructor certification is a plus.
Field Assistants
Field Assistants work in the field with Field Teachers and
play a vital role in the smooth operation of camp programs.
Assistants have the opportunity to develop leadership skills,
learn various outdoors and wildernesses related disciplines,
and act as positive role models for younger campers. They
will help to supervise and ensure the safety of campers
at all times, assist in teaching lessons, games and activities,
perform a variety of camp chores & maintenance projects.
Must enjoy working with children (ages 8-14) in the outdoors
and should be able to hike and be active. A great resume
builder. First aid certification and training for conservation
curriculum are provided!
Must be 16 - 17 years of age. Previous MCS or similar camp
experience is a plus.
Salary range $150-200/week plus room and board. ** Staff
under 18 years of age must leave campus Fri-Sun when camp
is not in session.
Conservation Field Teachers
Plan, develop, and teach environmental and conservation
education programs to youth ages 8-13. Field Teachers are
responsible for providing meaningful outdoor education experiences
for children in multi-day programs that include kayaking,
canoeing, woodsman's skills, wildlife & tracking, map
and compass, shelter building, rifle and archery range,
swimming, and more. Must enjoy working with children and
be able to hike and be active. Training is provided for
qualified applicants. Works with and supervises an Assistant
in the field. Willingness to assist other program needs
as necessary. Programs vary from hunter safety (rifle or
bow) to water safety and water quality.
Must be at least 18 years of age. Experience working with
youth, life experience, and education are taken into consideration.
Must be responsible and have good decision making capabilities.
Have a willingness to learn skills not yet acquired, enthusiasm
for teaching, a sense of humor, and able to have fun! Previous
camp experience is a plus.
Salary range $225-325/week plus room and board commensurate
with experience.
Primitive Skills Field Teachers
Primitive Skills staff members are responsible for providing
a safe and meaningful outdoor education experience for children
ages 12-15. Plan, develop, and teach lessons, games and
activities in animal tracking, debris huts, map and compass,
water purification, shelter building, fire making, primitive
skills, wildlife, carving, trapping, tool making, wild edible
plants, more! Supervise & ensure the safety of campers
at all times. Some Wilderness cooking is involved. Willingness
to assist other program needs as necessary.
Experience in Survival Skills, Backpacking, Hunting, Canoeing,
Wilderness Camping, etc are required. *Have a willingness
to learn skills not yet acquired * Enthusiasm for teaching,
a sense of humor, and able to have fun! Must enjoy working
with children, living in the outdoors, and must be prepared
to be physically active.
Must be at least 18 years of age. Experience working with
youth, life experience, and education are taken into consideration.
